Laurie Bentels Place: Weather Permitting

Our star gazing venue, Laurie Bentels Place, is currently the best place closest to home for WRAC stargazing. That is, within the West Rand area. There are a few trees that only allow later viewing in the East, South and South South West but the North, North West and up above, is clear and unhindered. Here, WRAC members have enjoyed many a clear and pleasant evening under the stars with telescopes and  binoculars, viewing, photographing, noting and learning.

Toward sunset we start arriving laden with our astro equipment, warm clothes, chairs, supper and evening munchies. A portable braai, meat and wors is also a welcome suggestion to get the taste buds and olfactory nerves a’tingling.  In warmth and friendly togetherness we watch the night skies amazed, astounded and often greatly humbled, while time and the world goes by.
