By day, Mountain Sanctuary Park is Paradise Found (William Blake). A real treasure in nature and a nature photographers dream. Paths draw one to a riverside of crystal clear and cooling waters, gurgling and crooning over boulders and rocks. To tumbling waterfalls, tumbling to deep and secret pools beside fern and tree-lined edges. Paths that draw one high into the rocky tops where rocks perch and balance just as nature made them and the wind whispers sibilantly around. Walking there, one  sighs with deep contentment as man and life were meant to be, away from the eternal rush and confusion of city living.

By night, stars knit together life on planet Earth and the Universe. Man with his telescope can travel the star-ways, hop from star to star through constellations and gather the wonders of Galaxies and Nebulae through the eye of a camera. Or, simply lay back with binoculars, relax in “Me time” and  observe the passing night sky,  in light years, where no clock or calendar will ever be. It’s  heavenly silence of mind space and infinity.

The West Rand Astronomy Club will be hosting our annual Weekend Away Star Party at Mountain Sanctuary Park from 2 to 4 September 2016.

The Park is a private nature reserve in the Magaliesberg Mountains, about

120km north-west of Johannesburg and 90km west of Pretoria.

The night sky is beautiful from this site and if conditions are favourable, the

Coal Sack in the Southern Cross and the Small Magellanic Cloud can be

seen.

Accommodation options are chalets, log cabins or camping.

Telescopes will be set up in an open field between camp sites 36 and 37.

Program to be confirmed, but may include:

_ Talks and demonstrations

_ Telescope raffle and other prizes

_ Sale table

_ Moonscope building for kids

All are welcome. Join us for a weekend of star gazing under dark skies.
